Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple

Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple is located on the Karigiri hill in the Vishnu Kanchi region of Kanchipuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the 108 Vaishnava shrines. The temple is located on a complex of 23 acres. Another specialty of this temple is that it has gold and silver lizards. This temple is a magnificent structure. There is a Pushkarini at the front of the temple premises and a welfare mandapam next to it. Varadharajan Perumal Temple is believed to have been built by the Chola kings in the year 1053 AD. There are over six hundred inscriptions in the temple premises which tell the history of the temple. The pavilions of the temple were built by Sri Krishna Devarayalu, the Vijayanagara ruler. Robert Clive, a British officer of the time during the Third Karnataka War, visited the temple and adorned the emerald necklace presented by the Swami during his festive season to this day. The temple has a mandapam with a thousand pillars. Varadaraja Swamy is said to have been worshiped here by Lord Brahma in the Krita age, Gajendra in the Treta age, Jupiter in the Dvapara age and Anantaseshu in the Kaliyuga. The Moola Virat Varadaraja Perumal idol in this temple is the second tallest idol in the country. To the west of the Varadaraja Swamy Temple is a 96-foot, 7-story wind tower. The temple has a 100-foot pavilion on the north side just beyond the west dome. It is a testament to the unique sculptural prowess.


The pavilion has stone chains hanging on four sides, on four sides. Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple has two floors. In the sanctum sanctorum on the upper floor, Sri Varadaraja Swami became a quadrilateral and became the west face. Many sub-temples are built in the precincts of this temple. The temple complex houses the Ananda Lake and the Golden Lotus Pond. In the mandapam in the middle of Ananda Sarovar, there is an idol of a fig tree made of fig wood underwater. Once every 40 years, they are removed from the corner and allowed to visit for 40 days. In the year 1970, Atti Sri Varadaraja Perumal was taken out of Koneru and allowed to visit. Devotees will be able to visit Atti Sri Varadaraja Perumal again in June 2019. The first thing we all remember about Kanchi is gold and silver. In the Varadaraja Swamy Temple, there are two lizard idols on the roof of the mandapam on the northeast side of the sanctum sanctorum. One of them was plated with gold and the other with silver. Next to these are the sun and moon. All the devotees touch these. Devotees believe that touching like this will not cause any harm to the lizard that accidentally fell on the shit. The story is told of a sage's son staying here. Below the Varadaraja Swamy Temple is the temple of Sri Narasimha Swamy. It is known that this is the birthplace of Kautilya, the creator of economics.
