Brahma Sarovar -kurukshetra

Brahma Sarovar is one of the important places to visit in Kurukshetra. It was formerly a very large lake. The Kurukshetra Urban Development Authority reduced it to one-third and built baths and halls on all four sides, around 1170 meters long and 546 meters wide. Lord Brahma performed penance at this lake. Hence the name Brahma Sarovar. It is also said that the lake where Brahma hid Duryodhana at the end of the Mahabharata war was Brahma Lake. Bathing in this lake removes all sins. During the Kumbh Mela and the eclipse, a large number of pilgrims come here. Inside the lake is a newly built temple about 20 yards away. The temple has idols of Goddess Durga, Santoshimata, and Sri Satyanarayanaswamy. Inside the lake is a small Lanka-like terrain. There is a Shiva temple there. The Swami in it is called Surveyor Mahadev. It is believed to have been built by Baba Sravanath Ji in the 17th century. A bridge was built to the temple from the bank of the lake and the Lakshminarayana Mandir is located in the area. This is the oldest temple in Kurukshetra. The idols of Sri Lakshminarayana carved in black stone in this temple are very beautiful. Gaudiya Math, Gorakshanad Mandir, Geeta Bhavan, Kalikamali Baba Mandir etc. are located in the vicinity of this temple. It is said that bathing in this lake during the eclipse is very sacred. Therefore, millions of people visit Kurukshetra during the eclipse from many parts of the north. There is an ancient temple of

Lakshminarayana on the other side of the road on the banks of Brahma Sarovar. Adjacent to this road is a number of small and large temples built recently. In this temple, there is a scene of Bhishma lying on Ampashayya. Ancestors say that the underworld came up by an arrow shot by Arjuna from the adjacent pool. Also on the other side of the town is a pool called Jyotisar. On its banks is the place where Lord Krishna is said to have chanted to Arjuna. Birla Dharamshala and Jat Dharamshala are located on the other side of the road on the banks of Brahma Sarovar. Kurukshetra is a town divided into two parts, Kurukshetra and Thaneshwar. Due to the presence of a temple dedicated to a deity named Sthaneshwar in Sthaneshwar, the town got its name Sthaneshwar and later became Taneshwar. There are ancient temples in Thaneshwar called Sthaneshwara Temple and Bhadrakali Temple.
