Shree Mangaladevi Temple, Mangalore
Mangaladevi Temple is located at Bolara, 3 km from the city
of Mangalore in the state of Karnataka. Formerly known as Mangalore, Mangalore.
Mangalore became the abode of Mangaladevi. Over time, the name changed to Mangalore.
Mangaladevi Temple is a very ancient temple. Mangalore got its name from the
fact that Mangaladevi Amma was born in the city. This mother is worshiped by
devotees as an aspect of Goddess Parvati. The city of Mangalore was formerly
ruled by the Kadambus, Vijayanagara kings, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Portuguese, etc. The region has long been torn apart by conflicts between the Mysore
aristocracy, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, and British leaders. In 1799 it was
completely taken over by the British. According to local mythology, the
Mangaladevi temple located here was built by Matsyendra Nadhu of the Nadha
dynasty. During the reign of Kandavarma, who ruled over Tulu Nadu, sages
Gorakhanadhu and Matsyendra Nadhu visited his kingdom. They told their king that
this kingdom you rule is very sacred. It is said that Mangaladevi came to this
place a long time ago on an occasion, so they asked the king to build a temple
for her, and the king agreed. The sages said that they did not take the king to
a place and dug the ground here, but when the king dug there, they found the
idol of Achat Mangaladevi. The Mangaladevi Temple was built and revered under
the auspices of those sages.
